Referrals
Our young people are referred to the HTU by their mainstream school and remain enrolled at that school during their placement. The school and the Unit enter into a Memorandum of Understanding that temporarily transfers student attendance. Every student referred to the Unit attends a meeting with members of the Unit team, parent/guardian and a representative from the referring school.
As any government secondary school can refer to the Unit, there is often a waitlist. If placed on the waitlist, members of the Unit team will remain in contact with all stakeholders until a placement can be offered.
The referring school will also need to complete the online FLO referral form and be approved by the region prior to a placement commencement.
When the Unit receives a referral we will communicate with the mainstream school to:
Ensure that the HTU referral documents are completed by relevant parties
Book a referral meeting with all stakeholders
Complete the FLO online referral process with Region
